Hello, as expected, the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team have released the A4 untethered for 5.0.1 based on my work.

It is exactly the same set of files, either distributed as a Cydia package for those that are already tethered or a redsn0w bundle for new users.

They both did a great job testing and integrating the payload.

Publisher Economic Times reports that Apple intends to honor the memory of who died October 5, 2011 former CEO Steve Jobs, in conjunction with the launch of third generation tablets iPad for his birthday. The deceased was born on February 24. However, the resource is 9 to 5 Mac, usually provides a sufficiently accurate information on the announcements of Apple, said that new products are usually presented on Tuesday or Wednesday, and February 24, 2012 falls on a Friday. From this it is concluded that 24 device is already in the shops (the usual practice, when sales of new products will start on the last working day of the week), and its announcement will take place earlier - in late January or early February. iPad first was presented on Wednesday, January 27, and in sale on Saturday, April 3. His successor was shown on Wednesday, March 2, and in sale on Friday, March 11. At the time of announcement of the tablet iPad 2 Steve Jobs was already on sick leave, but specially for the event came to personally introduce novelty. According to rumors the difference between the second and third versions of the iPad will not be so large so early a date out to the market model is quite realistic, subject to the condition that the partners will Apple provide a sufficient number of components by the end of February.

When Apple launched its Newsstand feature in iTunes this fall, the idea was that giving newspaper and magazine publishers their own dedicated shelf space — for those who signed on to Apple’s subscription program – would boost sales.
And perhaps it has. After the feature launched in October, there were a flurry of press releases and reports about increases in downloads and activity, though every report I saw listed percentage increases, not actual numbers.
But here are some, from Bonnier’s Popular Science mag app, in convenient chart form. The jump you see in the second week of October corresponds with the launch of Newsstand:

The chart comes to us courtesy of Mag+, Bonnier’s tablet-publishing software business. And as Mag+ CEO Staffan Ekholm points out, the really promising indicator for Pop Sci isn’t the one-week sales leap of 13 percent — it’s that the the magazine’s growth picked up after that week, with more velocity.
It’s very easy to caveat this report  – the most obvious thing to point out is that Pop Sci is a title that resonates particularly well with the iTunes market. But it’s still nice to see actual sales data, no matter how anecdotal.
The next thing I’d love to see, though I’m not sure how easy it will be to suss out, is how often readers return to Newsstand apps. In my personal experience, I find that I end up visiting the New York Times’ app much less frequently now that it’s stored in the Newsstand. I wish I could pull it out on its own, so it could sit next to stuff I use all the time, like Instapaper and Twitter. If anyone wants to offer up usage stats, you’ve got an open platform here.

A German court previously decided to prohibit the sale of a Samsung tablet because of the similarity with the products of Apple, previously determined that the revised model is no longer yavlyaetsya copy iPad. Although this decision is not final, but the likelihood that an Apple representative will be able to prove the converse is not too large. The final decision will be made at the hearing, scheduled for February 9, 2012. As stated by Judge Joanna Hoffman-Brueckner (Johanna Brueckner-Hofmann): «According to the court, the defendant is sufficiently protected by the law away from the design." In the opinion of the representatives of the plaintiff, model Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 N was created exclusively for the German market, and continues to violate the intellectual property rights of Apple. Succeed or not an American company to retain a ban on the sale of its main competitor iPad tablet on one of the major European markets is not yet clear. On the other hand, carried away to Apple fighting only with Samsung, while other manufacturers are bringing to market a variety of models, which continue to decrease the proportion of all iPad tablet making.

Work is set to begin "any day now" on a prototype Apple store in the heart of downtown Palo Alto, according to city planning officials.
The city issued a building permit on Dec. 12 for the modern two-story structure Apple wants to erect at 340 University Ave., about a block away from its existing downtown store.
An application to raze the old Liddicoats building that occupies the 9,250-square-foot lot is also nearly complete, according to Yvette Sheets-Saucedo, a LEED accredited professional with the Palo Alto Development Center. A Z Gallerie furniture store was the building's most recent occupant.
Meanwhile, construction crews recently completed a pedestrian bypass tunnel in front of the site.
Plans filed with the city call for a glass roof and facade that will allow natural light to flood much of the 15,030-square-foot store. Stone and steel also factor heavily into the design. A basement and rear mezzanine will provide office space and storage, according to the plans.
"It's a very unique building," Palo Alto planning manager Steven Turner told The Daily News. "The retail space within the building is very visible to pedestrians who are walking past."
Documents filed earlier this year for the $3.15 million project describe the store as a "new prototype" and a "commons for (Apple's) community to gather." Architectural firm Bohlin Cywinski Jackson, which has won numerous awards for its work on other Apple stores, is listed asthe project applicant.

The Apple store at 451 University Ave. -- the company's ninth retail outlet and first in Northern California -- is expected to close once work wraps up on the new digs.
The famously secretive Cupertino-based company declined to discuss the project in detail Wednesday.
"Our Palo Alto store was one of our first retail stores when we opened it nearly a decade ago and it's been incredibly popular," company spokeswoman Amy Bessette said in a prepared statement. "We are planning a beautiful new store just a few steps away, building on everything we've learned from our customers in Palo Alto and around the world.

The Grand Theft Auto 3 app for the iPhone has seen a price drop with the price being slashed by a pound, dropping from £2.99 to £1.99.It has revamped graphics, some new character models and customised controls for the iPhone's touchscreen. The new release of Grand Theft Auto on the iPhone has seen some really positive reviews - and for this price it is certainly a must for any fan of the original. But apart from the ace gameplay and top visuals, the thing that really made GTA 3 great was the classic audio and you'll be pleased to hear that the original soundtrack is present in all its glory - jingles and all. We've given it a thorough going over in our recent App of the Day slot, so head over there now, read the review, and then grab yourself a bargain from the App Store.source

A German court rejected Apple's claims that Samsung Electronics' reworked tablet PC still looks like a copycat version of the iPad, in a preliminary assessment.

Apple is fighting several rival makers of smartphones and tablet PCs in courts worldwide over intellectual property.

Its battle with Samsung, which is Apple's supplier as well as a competitor, has been especially bitter, with some 30 legal cases in 10 countries.

"According to the court's assessment, the defendant has moved away sufficiently from the legally protected design," Judge Johanna Brueckner-Hofmann said in court on Thursday.

Brueckner-Hofmann added that a ruling was slated for February 9.

In response to an earlier court ruling in Apple's favour, Samsung had redesigned its Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the German market only and named it Galaxy Tab 10.1N.

But Apple challenged the reworked version as well, seeking an injunction that would ban Samsung from marketing the product in Europe's largest consumer market.

Samsung, for its part, earlier this week filed new claims in a separate dispute related to telecommunications standard technology with Apple for alleged patent infringements in Germany.

Weakening economies and falling prices of rival smartphones are hurting sales of Apple iPhones across Europe, data from research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech showed on Thursday.

The October roll-out of Apple's iPhone 4S boosted its position in Britain and United States, but the new phones failed to excite interest in continental Europe, where Apple's share of the fast-growing smartphone market slipped.

The smartphone industry is dominated by Google, which has stormed the market with its free Android platform.

"In Great Britain, the U.S. and Australia, Apple's new iPhone continues to fly off the shelf in the run-up to Christmas. However, this trend is far from universal," said Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director.

Apple's market share in the 12 weeks to end-November rose to 36 percent in the United States from 25 percent a year earlier and in Britain to 31 percent from 21 percent, Kantar said.

However, in France its share slipped to 20 percent from 29 percent and in Germany to 22 percent from 27 percent. Similar drops were seen in Italy and Spain.

"The French market is showing increasing signs of price sensitivity," Sunnebo said.

In part, the European sales of the expensive Apple model were hit by weakening economies across the continent.

Euro zone GDP grew just 0.2 percent in the third quarter and most economists expect it to contract in the fourth and also in the first three months of next year, sending the bloc back into recession after its two-year recovery from the worst global financial crisis since the 1930s.

The euro zone's own crisis with government debt has scared off investment and eaten into business and consumer confidence, particularly since August when investors intensified their scrutiny of the bloc's problems.

European consumers are keeping a lid on their expenses as government spending cuts and job losses deprive companies of demand for goods and crush exports.

Google had market shares of between 46 and 61 percent in all markets. Cellphone makers like Samsung Electronics, Sony Ericsson, LG Ericsson and Motorola Mobility all use its Android platform in their phones.

"In Germany, Android achieved a dominant 61 percent share of smartphone sales in the latest 12 weeks, with the Samsung Galaxy S II the top selling handset," Sunnebo said.

The long-awaited launch of the iPhone 4S has helped Apple win market share in the United States and Britain, although it is losing ground in the rest of Europe, data from research firm Kantar Worldpanel ComTech showed on Thursday.

"In Great Britain, the U.S. and Australia, Apple's new iPhone continues to fly off the shelf in the run-up to Christmas. However, this trend is far from universal," said Dominic Sunnebo, global consumer insight director.

Output in October of the next generation of smartphones Apple iPhone strengthened positions in the markets of Great Britain and the U.S. but in Europe, interest in these devices was not as significant. As a result, Apple's share of the smartphone market began to diminish. The fight against the dominant smartphone market by Google in Europe was lost. While in the U.S., Britain and Australia are bought iPhone with the same intensity and the proportion of these vehicles in the U.S. grew from 25 to 36%, and in Britain from 21 to 31%, nothing like that in the EU is not observed. On the contrary, the French market share decreased from 29 to 20%, in Germany from 27 to 22%. Around the same rates of interest fall in Italy and Spain. The greatest decline in demand on the French market due to its greatest sensitivity to price increases. In other countries this process is the same reason - a pragmatic European buyers are reluctant to buy one of the most expensive models on the market, while the economy of their country is going through hard times. Sales of the iPhone in Europe down place that loses in the European Apple intensity is OS Android. According to various countries, the percentage of devices running Google's varied and ranges from 46% to 61%. The greatest rate of 61% was recorded in Germany. Android on the side of a wide variety of models from different manufacturers, which offer not only the devices with different functionality, but also designed for various income buyers.

Apple (AAPL) is having quite the week when it comes to legally protecting the iPhone from competitors, and it's only Tuesday. First was the victory at the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) over HTC. The agency approved a ban of HTC handsets that it ruled infringe on one patent out of the 10 that Apple had originally asserted against its Google (GOOG) Android-fueled competitor. The ban doesn't start until next April and HTC said that it will remove the infringing feature by then, so its business won't face disruption. As patent blogger Florian Mueller notes, Apple would need a set of such enforceable patents for real "competitive impact." But the company keeps getting broad and fundamental patents on basic smartphone features. And its latest, granted today, is another doozy: the ability to swap to an app while maintaining a phone call.Apple wins patent victory over HTC, which faces looming import banMotorola rocks Apple with German patent winApple gets killer location services patentDrop that callPatent number 8,082,523, called Portable electronic device with graphical user interface supporting application switching, has a vital independent claim that is much broader than it looks on first reading: A method, comprising: at a portable electronic device with a touch screen display: displaying on the touch screen display a first user interface for a phone application during a phone call; detecting activation of a menu icon or menu button during the phone call, in response to detecting activation of the menu icon or menu button, replacing the first user interface for the phone application with a menu of application icons including an icon for the phone application and an icon for a non-telephone application; maintaining the phone call while displaying the menu of application icons on the touch screen display; detecting a finger gesture on an application icon in the menu of application icons other than the phone application icon; in response to detecting the finger gesture on the application icon other than the phone application icon, displaying a corresponding application user interface on the touch screen display while continuing to maintain the phone call and modifying the corresponding application user interface to include a switch application icon that is not displayed in the corresponding application user interface when there is no ongoing phone call; detecting a finger gesture on the touch screen display on the switch application icon; and in response to detecting the finger gesture on the switch application icon, replacing display of the corresponding application user interface with the first user interface for the phone application while continuing to maintain the phone call.Breaking it down, here's the list of steps the patent actually covers:1. During a call on a mobile device with a touch screen, with the phone user interface showing, the users touches either a menu button or an icon.2. The device replaces the phone interface with a menu of application icons, including the phone icon.3. A user's finger gesture chooses another app.4. The app's interface comes up, all the while not dropping the call. The interface includes a "switch application icon" only when a phone call is occurring.5. The user performs a finger gesture on the switch application icon, taking the user back to the phone interface. There are also dependent claims that extend this concept in various ways. For example, the switch application icon could appear in the menu of application icons only when a phone call is underway. The menu icon or button could also simultaneously activate the speaker function, so the user can watch the screen and still hear the person.Psychological advantageYou have to admire the craft of the lawyers on this one. Although the main claim is quite specific, it manages to nail down the steps in just broad enough a way to make to clumsy for a competitor to work around. There might be non-infringing ways to do something similar. Displaying a list of app names instead of icons during the phone call might be different enough. Having the switch app icon always there but dimmed when there is no phone call could be another way out.But the point of such an application isn't to make it impossible for an Android competitor to offer an equivalent vital feature. After all, how often do you find it necessary to use an app in the middle of a phone call? The point is to force other companies to implement the feature in a way that is clumsy, inelegant or cumbersome. Scrolling through a list of names rather than a list of icons looks bad. And looks mean a lot when the subject is marketing consumer electronics. The more rough edges Apple can force into Android and the more it can make other manufacturers omit functions -- the HTC case is just one example, and Apple has many more lawsuits running -- the more Apple can position the iPhone and iPad as the elegant and desirable consumer choices.Whether this patent, the recent location services one, or others granted since getting into court with competitors, Apple continues to harvest a collection of legal clubs that can keep other handset manufacturers tripping time after time. It has yet to raise all these clubs in court, but it could -- and probably will in time. Will that ultimately knock Android off the market? No. But the tactics could further force other vendors to focus on lower margin business, preserving the profit feeding grounds for Apple.source

It is our pleasure to release our latest Distimo Publication. This report will give an overview of the most important developments in the mobile app stores in 2011. How did the store sizes develop over the last year? Which store generates most revenue nowadays? What are the most downloaded apps of 2011? These questions will be answered in Distimo’s yearly publication. All data covers the stores during the period January – November 2011 in the United States, unless otherwise noted. The key findings from this report are:Both the Apple App Store for iPad and the Apple App Store for iPhone still beat the Google Android Market in terms of the total revenue generated by the 200 highest grossing apps. The Apple App store for iPhone generates about four times the revenue that is generated in the Google Android Market.2011 was the year where in-app purchases and the freemium business model became one of the most important monetization strategies for developers. Half of the revenue of the 200 top grossing apps in the Apple App Store for iPhone is now generated by freemium apps. This proportion is even higher in the Google Android Market where 65% of the revenue from the top grossing apps is generated by freemium apps. The number of downloads in the Apple App Store for iPhone in China increased drastically during 2011. Comparing the number of Apple App Store downloads in the US with the number of Apple App Store downloads in China, we see that China now generates 30% of the total downloads of these two countries in the Apple App Store for iPhone. The number of downloads generated in the Apple App Store for iPad in China are even closer to those generated in the US: China generates 44% of the iPad downloads of these two countries.A dip can be observed in the number of downloads generated in the respective Apple App Stores just prior to the release of a new Apple device, e.g. iPhone or iPad. The number of iPad downloads was at a yearly low in February just before the launch of the new iPad, but they immediately increased again in March. The same happened with the launch of the latest iPhone in October.Nearly all of the app stores more than doubled their number of available apps in 2011. Windows Phone 7 Marketplace showed the largest relative growth of all stores with more than 400% year-on-year growth. Combined, the seven major app stores now offer more than one million apps. The Windows Phone 7 Marketplace is now the fourth largest app store when looking at the total number of available games, having surpassed both the Nokia Ovi Store and BlackBerry App World. The Amazon Appstore – larger than both the Nokia Ovi Store and BlackBerry App World as well in terms of available games – is now the fifth largest app store for games. You can now download this publication. The press kit including all image files is also available.Aside from this free publication, our annual paid report for 2011 is available for purchase for North America, Europe and Asia now as well.source

ric Schmidt: "Between 6 months our tablet. The Americans still think to make the best products, but is no longer true. A friend of mine and a unique character, able to combine creativity and visionary genius with an extraordinary engineering ability. Sometimes you find people who have one thing or another. But not the two together. Steve has realized the revolutionary potential of the tablet and has created an amazing product like the iPad. What is the future, for example, of his profession, journalism. But our companies compete, you compete. We in the next six months we plan to market a tablet of the highest quality. And in mobile communications, the smartphone market, you will see brutal competition between Apple and Google Android. It is capitalism. "Christmas Afternoon in Chelsea, the city's most trendy and youth in New York to talk about innovation, the joys and sorrows of the digital revolution, the president of Google, Eric Schmidt. From industrial Surrounded by a former biscuit factory of Nabisco. This is where the California-based company that has changed our lives with its search engine, has built its New York-based: two buildings facing on Ninth Avenue in which three thousand working engineers, computer scientists, marketing experts, advertising manager. Entering the number 75 you find yourself in the river of the customers of the Chelsea Market, shopping mecca, which occupies the entire ground floor. But, through a side door of crude steel, you end up in an elevator that goes up in Google offices. "It was a factory of the National Biscuit Company. Here are churning out crackers and Oreo, "says Ellen West, vice president of Google's Schmidt to guide me skating on a wooden floor and a little old 'burnt, old cast iron pipes and ultramodern furniture.Innovation gives us extraordinary opportunities, but also creates problems of privacy, the jobs that disappear with automation. Before, they were replaced by the growth of new services, new jobs. A recent study at MIT in Boston says it is no longer so. He sees no limits to the process of Schumpeterian "creative destruction"? "His - Schmidt answers - it's a good question, although based on a negative bias. The answer starting, however, a positive prejudice: Capitalism is the only mechanism that has proved capable of improving the living standards of society. But it is a process that also causes pain. The company tries to minimize them with tools such as unemployment benefits. These are the rules of the global market and are inescapable. The difficulties of Europe are also on the difficulties of adapting to new realities. "Eric Schmidt (AFP)We see a problem mainly euros and debt. "I think politics in Italy, Europe, and to some extent also in the U.S., has failed to focus on the challenge that lies ahead. They do so mainly tactical choices, even if important: pensions, support the euro. But the real problem is that of global competition, from which we can not withdraw. You can have this desire, but if you are Italy, which produces a great product and then the Chinese will make it better than you, you have no alternative: you have to change. The people you like us, is very angry about this: I did a study on behalf of the White House. "She travels frequently in European capitals, discussed this with Prime Minister and ministers. How do they react? "They nod their heads, showing understanding of the nature of problems. I know very well, Mario Monti. Let's see if he makes it there. "Tough competition between the West and Asia, but also here in America, between you and Apple, the creature of his friend Steve Jobs. She says that the battle between Android and iPhone will be brutal. "These are the rules of the market, and go to the benefit of the consumer. I do not know you in Europe, but here in the U.S., thanks to the struggle already in place, you can now have the best smart phones with $ 100. "A case of tablet Tony Gil Google (bit.ly / aimwlH)Android is about to introduce a voice server capable of responding to user questions similar to the Syrians the latest version of the iPhone. Voices founded? "Your question is a bit 'strange, given that we have, and for a long time, the best translation software voice. We can always use it to do things similar to the Syrians. Of course not talking about future products, not yet announced. But the technology we have, we must develop it. We will see. It depends, as I said, the market and innovation that has ever-increasing pace. People are surprised because we are accustomed to thinking that every year things will be the same. It happens to me too. Some time ago, on a visit to his country, I went to Bologna to see the house of my childhood. "Why has lived in Italy? "My father was at Johns Hopkins University in Bologna, I went to a Montessori school. Going back there, I find the atmosphere rather than 50 years ago and I saw all modernized. Repeaters, a perfect 3G signal. I left a little 'disappointed. But then, if you put aside the nostalgia, you realize that in an Italy immutable in its beauty and cultural riches, but in the chaos of Rome, or in his theater of politics, technology is the only true agent of change. Italy has a mobile penetration of 130 percent: 1.3 head phones, a record. Objects come between us just twenty years ago, in 1990. Yet I believe that today the Italians do not even remember their country than it was with no phones. "Google model innovation without limits. Just yesterday you said that one of the strengths of his company is the lack of a default address in the search. "With anarchy, of course, not going anywhere, but if central planning will not create anything new. With us there is more freedom of initiative, hierarchies count for little. Companies of Europe, a continent more tied to old models of management, tend to choose the top-down, "the President, the President" (in Italian, ed) feel always say in these companies. But if the hierarchy has only stiffened, kill creativity. "What can we expect from Google X, Google's secret lab, that of the "forbidden dreams," which recently spoke to the New York Times? "That article is based on the leaks and we do not comment on rumors. However, the most important thing on which X works at Google is the car that you drive alone. "We'll see you soon on the market? "There will be some time before she can move to the back seat of a car that goes by itself. Years, perhaps even a decade: there are many regulatory issues and liability. For now, I would expect the equivalent of an autopilot. She will be in the driving seat and the car will tell you what he intends to do. "The Internet is changing television. And YouTube, with the recent updates, the phenomenon seems to ride with a more commercial television. It's the new strategy of your company? "YouTube will be more profitable because it will have more publicity. But it will not be televised. What is a comparison with the TV because I do not like the business model of YouTube is different: to help people make money with content that is produced and distributed independently, but on the Internet. Even the new channels that we are creating concern the web. Then, of course, it is true that people often prefer to follow these channels on the Web instead of watching television. But they are two different things. We also have a strategy to allow the user to combine them together, but is entrusted to Google TV. Will arrive in Europe in the first half of 2012. "source

Samsung Electronics has filed new claims in its patent war with Apple Inc over alleged patent infringements in Germany, a spokesman for the company said on Monday. The tech giant added four patents to its ongoing infringement case related to the telecommunications standard technology WCDMA for 3G mobile handsets, which was filed in April, the spokesman said. The four new complaints, including use of emoticons, come as the worldwide patent battle between Apple and smartphone rival Samsung continues to escalate."(Samsung) made four more claims; two are standard-related patents and the other two are utility patents. And a court said it would make these claims separate from the April lawsuit," the spokesman said.On Friday, a regional German court in Mannheim held a hearing on the April case, saying it would announce a ruling on March 2, the Samsung spokesman said.Samsung won a round of its bruising global patent fight when an Australian court lifted a ban on the sale of its Galaxy table computer earlier in December. But the South Korean tech giant's victory was tempered by a setback the previous day in Paris, where another court turned down its bid to block sales of Apple's iPhone 4S in France.source

Facebook recently went public with an awesome new feature called Timelime, a brand-new interface for profiles. That feature launched for the mobile web view of Facebook for iPhone but until today has not been available in Facebook’s native application on the App Store.Today’s Facebook app update for Mobile Timeline is iPhone and iPod touch exclusive, but Facebook is promising Timeline support on the iPad “soon.” Some other new features work across the iOS ecosystem, though, including Friends Lists, better photo management, and subscriptions support. All the details after the break:Friends list: This port from the desktop version of Facebook to the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch version allows you to separate friends in “lists” that are like groups. These Friends Lists allow you to grant certain access of your profile to certain people and and also allow you to simply better manage your cliques or family members.Better photo management: Facebook also includes quicker access to photos (they load much faster), improved commenting, and photo uploading. In addition – at least for users with Timeline on – your Facebook notifications come down in an iPad-like pop-over menu. It’s a pretty neat time saver since you don’t lose full access to the content you were viewing at that moment.Subscriptions: Subscriptions allow you to follow more than just friend’s updates on Facebook and follow celebrities, journalists, and others. The subscriptions service also allows you to see only certain types of movement of your friends on Facebook: life events, status updates, photos, games, comments/likes, music/videos, and other activity. The Facebook update now allows you to manage this feature. On top of the new features, Facebook has improved the speed and performance of the application. Today’s Facebook update basically is taking features from the desktop and bringing them down to mobile, demonstrating how important mobile device usage is for Facebook, and really fleshing out the point of the Post-PC era that Apple is leading.source
