In our latest Follow the Expert film, Matthew Smith, Head of Network Marketing at Ericsson IP and Broadband, shows us what caught his eye at the recent Broadband World Forum (BBWF) in Paris, France.

With more than 100 exhibitors every year, BBWF is a major forum and showcase for all companies involved in broadband access.

Smith looks at Ericsson’s Deep Fiber Access solution, in combination with heterogeneous network offerings – connecting existing fiber access in cities with rapidly growing mobile broadband, and related devices and users.

He explains how two generations of fiber access – gigabit passive optical network (GPON) and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) – can work side by side, and looks at how EDGE routers and Ericsson Smart Server Routers deal with scale and capacity issues related to increased network data traffic. He also talks about how optical packet technology can help operators improve cost effectiveness in their transport networks (the aggregation layer) while moving towards all-IP networks.

On a tour of some of the exhibits, Smith looks at broadband access solutions related to High-Definition TV, fiber optics and WiFi.
