Operator uses Nokia Siemens Networks’ end-to-end LTE solution to offer broadband speeds of up to 100 Mbps
Customers of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT), the largest mobile operator in Latvia, can now enjoy ultra-fast broadband with speeds of up to 100 megabits per second (Mbps) for accessing services, including reliable video streaming, real-time gaming, and movies-on-demand. Nokia Siemens Networks has deployed a Long Term Evolution (LTE)* network in the 1800 MHz spectrum band with its end-to-end LTE solution including radio access equipment and evolved packet core. The network went live in May 2011.
“With the increased adoption of smart devices, customers expect the best communications experience with super fast broadband connectivity, and that’s what LTE offers,” said Juris Binde, president of Latvijas Mobilais Telefons. “We worked with Nokia Siemens Networks during the LTE trials in 2010. The company’s large installed base, extensive services support and availability of local resources for project execution made it the obvious choice for this deal.”
“The launch of 4G services in Latvia is a milestone as it will bring new opportunities for both LMT’s individual and enterprise customers,” added Jan Lindgren, head of TeliaSonera global account team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “This development will help the operator play a vital role in the growth of the Latvian telecom market.”
Nokia Siemens Networks provided the LTE radio network based on its Flexi Multiradio Base Station. As an exclusive partner to LMT for its LTE network, the company also supplied its Evolved Packet Core (EPC)** that will allow the operator to manage the expected increase in data traffic. In addition, Nokia Siemens Networks provided a range of services, including network implementation, network optimization, care and consulting services, and systems integration to ensure a smooth rollout of the network. LMT has been able to optimally manage its network, especially the newly introduced EPC and LTE radio networks with the enhanced NetAct network management system from Nokia Siemens Networks.
