Marathon season is upon us. We’re seeing more marathons, for all imaginable causes, opening up registration for later this year. And you know what that means - time to dust off your Nike+ gear!

The Nike+ sensor allows runners to track their runs, via a sensor embedded in compatible Nike running shoes, on their iPod Nanos. Unfortunately, we’re still waiting on the Nike+ application for our iPhones and iPhone 3Gs.

Last we heard, Apple was working with Nike to bring the Nike+ experience to the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Today we’re seeing what is reported to be the first ever screenshots of the iPhone Nike+ application. The signal receiver that communicates with the in-shoe sensor is already compatible with the iPhone’s dock connector, but users are going to need an iPhone application to take advantage of the hardware.
The new iPhone Nike+ app is expected to allow you to update your online running log/run-tracker in real-time. There’s even a mapping feature shown in the screenshots that has us excited to go explore our neighborhood.

Now, where did I put that Nike+ run sensor?
