We don't hear much about Alcatel mobile phones, but the latest handset to come out under this brand surely deserves a bit of our attention.

Called Alcatel OT-I650, the new phone is an entry-level one that comes with a G-sensor (accelerometer). This apparently allows users to switch between applications – like music player, games, alarm – just by shaking the phone. So the handset has some sort of Shake Control function, similar to lots of Sony Ericsson phones.

Alcatel OT-I650 is a candybar manufactured by TCL Communication Technology, a Chinese company that produces Alcatel cell phones instead of the French-based Alcatel, which is now part of the Alcatel-Lucent joint venture.

The OT-I650 is a sporty device, not only by design, but also because it offers several sport applications, like a pedometer that should help you when jogging.

Other specs of the new Alcatel phone include:

  • Music player
  • FM radio
  • Bluetooth
  • 1.3 Mp camera
  • Flashlight
  • Talk time: up to 12 hours
  • Stand-by time: up to 30 days (!)

Alcatel OT-I650 will first be available in Russia, in two colors (black and orange) for the price of 3,190 Russian rubles. That's about $120, so the phone is quite cheap.

Alcatel OT-I650 Mobile Phone With Accelerometer

Alcatel boasts its entry level handset that comes equipped with a built-in accelerometer. This technology allows you to switch between applications by shaking the phone. The mobile phone also comes equipped with Music player, FM radio, Bluetooth connectivity, a 1.3MP digital camera, and flashlight. Its battery offers 12 hours of talk time or 30 days of standby time. The Alcatel OT-I650 is currently available in Russia for $120.

The OT-S210 is one of three launches in Alcatel’s new ‘Essence’ range. The three new handsets are all quite similar in design. The final pricing has yet to be revealed, but the least expensive of the trio will be the OT-S120. It has a black and white display. The other two in the range have colour displays and the OT-S211 will have an FM radio, which the others lack. All three handsets in the range are candybar mobiles and they share the same dimensions and weight. They are a slim and tidy 98mm tall, 44mm wide, and 12.3mm thick, and tip the scales at 69g. I had no trouble at all pocketing the OT-S210 at any time during testing.

Now, clearly, as a budget priced phone some things have to suffer in the specifications department. There is no camera, for example, so budding photographers need to look somewhere else for their new mobile phone. Without a camera there is no outgoing MMS support and none incoming either. Nor will you find things like mobile email or Web browsing here. And you can’t use the OT-S210 as a music player.

What is on offer is a pretty ordinary and basic mobile phone, designed for making voice calls, texting and not a lot else. The handset is dual band, and it has memory for 250 contacts but nothing much more to speak of. There is no memory slot for adding your own storage.

ALcatel Mobile launched its new Alcatel OT-S218 under GSM S-series. ALcatel has introduced their OT-S218 designed to “Enlarge your vision”. The OT-S218 has a 1.8in, 128 x 160, 65 colour screen, Bluetooth 2.0, an RDS-capable FM radio, and tri-band GSM/GPRS connectivity. A battery that supports a 10 hours talk time and a 4oo hours of standby time and weighs 70g.

Were you easily swayed away by the large amount of features your present cell phone betted to have? And now it’s bugging you every time you see it, then, we guess its the perfect time has come for you to switch over it and get a well equipped gadget that serves some amazing qualities, but, not a bulk of them as it will only lead to messing up of the features like your present cell phone.

“Alcatel OT-S218” provides a hedonistic facility that allows storing 300 SMS inside a Silver or Silver/Blue or Silver/Pink colored handset. What say Incredible? Yeah, but, hey hold on because there are some more features like this- built-in Hands free, Currency converter, PIM functionality and also a 7 hours long talk time.

Wondering! How can a light weighed and simple looking model hold such heavy qualities in it? Then, just watch out until Alcatel decides the price and date for launching S218.

The Alcatel E227 is 2G network compatible with GSM 900/1800 and can be used in most parts of the world such as Europe, Middle East, Africa and most of Asia. The phone was announced in February 2007 and it still is available in the market at this very moment. The dimensions of this phone are 87 mm by 45 mm by 21 mm and it weighs only 70 grams, which is lighter than a 500-page book.

It displays on TFT or in a thin filmed transistor with 65K of colors. Using an LCD is an improvement of past models which used CSTN, but most users of this phone claim that this is one of the waterloos of the phone as the screen can be too dark to see in poor lighting conditions. The screen could display 128 by 128 pixels which is about 1.5 inches and it has customizable screen savers and wallpapers. Ringtones and message alerts are polyphonic with 16 channels and iIt has the capacity to store in 250 entries in its phonebook, 10 dialed numbers, 10 received calls and 10 missed calls, which isn’t bad for a phone designed for low-end consumers. Data sharing and transfer can only be done through USB so that means you’ll also need to add media to the phone. Unfortunately, Alcatel E227 has very limited memory so you probably won’t be doing much transferring of data.
In recent years, Alcatel have innovated their phones making them look more attractive because honestly speaking their older mobile phones may have fantastic features but these looked like a bar of soap. But now however, Alcatel has proven that they could surpass their past achievements with the best looking phones, if not the simplest phones out in the market today. Now comes Alcatel E227 which is a flip phone and comes in different colors, with pink as the bestseller. As has been said, The Alcatel E227 is a simple phone built for people whose businesses takes them away from home for a couple of days. It is pretty straightforward and provides users with basic features that a mobile phone should have. It has excellent SMS and calling capability, with T9 text input making it easier to text. You can also opt for date and time display for a screen saver. It has two built-in games for users to enjoy. The best feature of this phone is that it is capable of a hosting a 5-way conference call. Talk time is up to 10 hours with its Lithium Ion mAh battery, and standby time can reach as high up as 325 hours.

Sure, many thought that Alcatel will never be able to produce better phones that could rival Nokia or the Korean brand, Samsung, but it doesn’t mean that they have conceded in trying to please this mobile world. With the release of the E227, Alcatel has proven that it can make phones which are both attractive and useful at an affordable price. Because the phone doesn’t have the more advanced features such as integrated camera and built-in entertainment systems, it most commonly is in the lower spectrum of prices, and is most preferred by businessmen who want their phones functional after hours of use. Its mobility is enhanced by the fact that it is even lighter than your denim jacket, you can place it anywhere without a fuzz.

Just like any phone, the Alcatel E227 can improve on several aspects One of this is focusing on its operating system. We all know how many applications are available for smart phones and even JAVA-enabled phones, but there is so few games that can be transferred to the phone. You’ll have to search high and low in order to find one that is compatible with the E227. Aside from this, most phone users complain that the USB connectivity isn’t really functional as several computers do not detect the phone. Unfortunately, there is no specified driver for the device so if you plan to use it, make sure your computer is updated and that it has the latest drivers that are needed for the phone to work.

Now you know how tech-savvy people are nowadays and a phone like the E227 is something really unattractive because of the lack of features. For those who are looking for a mobile phone-cum-media player, unfortunately, this phone is not for you.

The Alcatel OT-C825 offers a distinctive feel which makes the phone look more expensive than it is.

The most unique design characteristics is the leather-like surface on the back cover as well as the left side.

What I liked most is the scratch-resistant glossy rim which was inserted in the back panel as well as the bevelled side rims which gave the phone a rather accomplished look.

The back panel housed a 1.3-megapixel camera which I could use without having to slide the phone open. The panel on the right houses the camera and volume buttons while the left side has a Micro SD as well as a USB slot.

The 2in, 262,000 colours TFT display offers clear and bright images though it does fade in the sun to a certain extent.

I was happy with the keypad¡¦s response but its lights were a letdown and simply did not offer an equal amount of lighting to all the keys. Decent music player
It was easy to access the music player as I didn¡¦t have to slide the phone open. Its music function keys are located just above the navigation button on the front panel.

It had all the useful and common settings such as current track, repeat of all tracks, shuffle and repeat shuffle.

There were also enough pre-stored equaliser settings to adjust the music to my personal liking.

But I had to perform an extra task (launching it into a corresponding mode) to play songs via Bluetooth because the music does not transfer to a connected device automatically.

Another minor hassle with the music player was that I had to store all music files in the music folder. If it¡¦s not stored there, then the player simply won¡¦t be able to locate the songs to play.

The player also lets users store a personal favourites list and organise their music by adding tags such as genre, album and artiste.

Its Bluetooth connectivity was a breeze to use. It easily connects to other devices and supports A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile).
The built-in camera was quite good. Apart from standard picture taking, it also allowed me to take multi-shots in sets of three or five.

Its picture file compression settings include economy, standard and high quality mode and in resolutions of 1,280x1,024, 640x480, 352x288, 320x240, 176x220, 176x144 as well as 160x120 pixels.

The image quality was remarkable especially since the white balance is automatically adjusted for daylight, lamplight, fluorescent lamp and cloudy weather.

Video capture quality is also above average. It captures in 3GP format at a resolution of 176x144 pixels. Access to WAP, text messaging, and making phone calls was not a problem.

But I occasionally ran into problems with the speaker volume where I found it to suddenly increase or decrease.

Even the audible alert for the slider is sometimes affected by this problem. To be fair, it might have been our review unit that was faulty.

In any case, be sure to check the volume controls before you decide to purchase the Alcatel OT-C825.

But apart from one or two hitches, there were enough good features on the Alcatel OT-C825 to impress me.

Conclusion
The design aspects and good quality materials used are one of the major plus points of the Alcatel OT-C825 especially its leather-like casing as well as the scratch resistant glossy rim found on the back panel and side rims.

Pros: Impressive design; good quality build; decent music player; excellent camera.

Cons: None.
