We like simple well-thought-out phones, and the new Sony Ericsson J132 seems to fit into this category. In case you're not familiar with the J-Series range of phones, these are Sony Ericsson's cheapest and most basic handsets.. but they are always quite attractive to look at and usually very well thought out. The feature list on the J132 is refreshingly short. There's a very basic 128 x 128 pixel CSTN display, FM radio with loudspeaker, torch, speakerphone, vibrating alert, SMS messaging with predictive text, basic organiser functions and a dust-resistant keypad. That really is about it, except that the talktime is an impressive 9 hours with up to 18 days standby time, and the whole package weighs only 76 grams.
There's no GPRS, Bluetooth or multimedia player.. the J132 really is just a phone with a built-in radio. And why not? For a lot of people that is really all they will need.
There are two dual-band GSM variants, the J132a is a GSM 850/1900 device for use in America, the J132 is a 900/1800 device for use in the rest of the world. Sony Ericsson say that the J132 is due out in Q3 2008 in "Night Black" and "Heaven Blue" colour combinations.
